Christmas lights ~ balcony style

Last night we put our Christmas lights out on our balcony!
Here's my super fun roommate Lindsay ready to decorate.
Christmas lights are so beautiful. I just love them!
Here I am wearing my vintage Wolfpack sweatshirt (it's Danielle's favorite!). It's starting to feel a little bit like winter here.
We wrapped the lights all around the balcony. It's beautiful.
Yay! Christmas lights!
After we were done, we of course had to run downstairs and look at them from the parking lot. How fun! I'm so excited that it's time for Christmas :)

Christmas Time!

It's Christmas time at Everyday Ebullience! Oh yay!

gobble gobble!

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was delicious! We did so much cooking and eating and every single thing was amazing! I think my favorites were the acorn squash, cranberry sauce, and green beans. Oh! and pound cake :)
I am guilty of taking too few photos of our Thanksgiving celebrations but the turkey was beautiful and I snapped this photo right before we put it on the turkey platter and ate it!

How was your Thanksgiving, friends?

photo tour: We're Engaged!! (aka the proposal story)

Here it is, the story of the best day ever! Told with pretty photos and lots of love :)
One gorgeous fall Saturday, not too long ago, John and I decided to go hiking. We do that a lot, especially if waterfalls are involved. The leaves were absolutely beautiful and I was taking lots of pictures. To me, it was just a lovely day for a hike. I had no idea what was about to take place!  And John had started off the day saying that this could be one of the best hikes we'd ever taken ... little did I know.
On this particular hike, on this very special Saturday, we had planned to see 2 waterfalls! And the first one was Upper Whitewater Falls. This picture doesn't do it justice. It was huge and so very pretty!
After we saw the first falls, we headed down the trail, through the crunchy leaves, over rocks and bridges, through streams, and past multiple groups of young boy scouts on a camping adventure.
We stopped for a yummy snack on some rocks in the middle of the river.
Then we headed down the foothills trail again on our way to the Lower Whitewater Falls.
It was gorgeous!! Such a beautiful place with the colorful leaves and rushing water. We sat down on the overlook platform to rest our feet. We even chatted for a second with another couple about some of our favorite hikes in the area. After they left, I was sitting on the platform eating an apple and John stood up to "stretch". Then, while he's standing he tells me that he has something he's written and he wants to read it to me. (and honestly at this point I still did not catch on because I had NO idea about what was going to happen and had no idea that John had even thought about planning such a thing. Plus, John is a romantic and he likes to write sweet things to me. That's one of the many reasons I like him :) ) So, he starts reading the poem and I'm impressed with all the rhyming. And he reaches his hand into his pocket and that's when it clicked. OMG! Is he going to propose?? No way!! Then, he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him and he has the ring laying in the palm of his hand. My first response was Oh my gosh! Are you serious?? No way! haha I was so surprised! And then I immediately jumped up and said Yes! Of course! and gave him a huge hug. I just couldn't believe it. How wonderful!
So while John was down on one knee, these two men came walking down the trail and I could see them but John couldn't. So they walked up on the platform (while I'm freaking out!) and start discussing amongst themselves what a lovely view it is. Then they notice John has a NCSU t-shirt on and they start talking about football. Football! I kindly point out that Guess what?! We just got engaged! And they said 'Oh, that's what y'all were so excited about!' haha. Then they took this picture of us, the ring, our huge smiles, and the beautiful waterfall.
speaking of ... here's my ring! isn't it gorgeous??
I'm so surprised!
And so excited!
That's the story.
And now we're getting married! YAY!

I love you John. Thanks for making this day so special!

Holidays with the Hilfigers

Have you seen the Tommy Hilfiger holiday commercial? It has a Vampire Weekend song in it! And it's just basically awesome. I can't find a way to embed it in this post, but click here to enjoy!

ps - I saw this commercial about a million times during tonight's Glee ... which I thought was very good (especially when Schuster sang Buble!!) Did you get to watch it?

Give thanks with a grateful heart

Let's face it. I've been overlooking Thanksgiving. As soon as I removed the giant bat from my front door and I took down all the spider webs filling my living room I was listening to Mariah belt out Oh Holy Night, watching Elf, and deciding where the perfect place would be for my Christmas tree (since it will need to be seen from all angles of the apartment and its lights will need to shine brightly through the windows for all to see). But honestly there are many things to be thankful for this holiday season and for that I am truly grateful.
And most importantly this Thanksgiving, I am looking forward to being at home and cooking up something delicious with my family! Apparently, if I were a Thanksgiving side ... I would be mashed potatoes and gravy. Take this quiz to find out what you would be :)

recipe: Homemade Hot Cocoa

Oh the weather outside is frightful ...
ok. maybe not frightful. maybe it's not even below freezing here yet ... but it's hot chocolate weather nonetheless. and this weekend I made homemade, stovetop hot chocolate. and it was way good.
first you have to bring the cocoa powder, boiling water, and sugar to a simmering boil for 2 minutes. (and this rich chocolate aroma fills the kitchen ... it's fantastic.)
then you add cold milk and continue to heat the mixture. add some vanilla and it's ready for the mug!
once I poured it in the mugs, I added some evaporated milk so it would be extra creamy.
it was oh so good!
don't forget the marshmallows!
here's a recipe for you if you want to try it at home.

Photo Tour: Raleigh Christmas Parade 2010

Mom and I went to the Christmas parade this weekend! It was so fun and festive!
The city streets were decked out with wreaths and bows.
and people were watching from the rooftops and windows.
the bands played our favorite Christmas tunes

there were snowmen and Medieval costumes
and cute miniature horses! awe. Mom and I thought they should have been wearing antlers :)

more bands and Christmas color guard ... everyone was singing and dancing along.
Oscar the Grouch was there.
and so was Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers ... I mean of course they were - it was a Christmas parade after all. haha
And then it was time for the man of the hour!
Santa Claus!!!!
It was lots of fun! and it wasn't even that cold - just sweater weather.
Is it time to put up our tree yet??
